Pillion riding ban lifted in Karachi

KARACHI: After two days’ imposition, pillion riding ban has been lifted in Karachi at 12:00am on Tuesday, ARY News reported.

The provincial government of Sindh Sunday imposed a two-day ban on pillion riding ahead of Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) which was observed on November 21. Mobile phone services also remained suspended during the day on Monday.

Police had rounded up at least 100 people in the metropolis for violating the ban on pillion riding ban.

Police said most of the arrests were made from sea view area and near the remits of Darakhshan Police Station.

Women, children below the age of 12 years, senior citizens, journalists, personnel of law enforcement agencies/security agencies in uniform, and employees of the essential services were exempted from the ban.

According to the notification, the ban has been imposed in pursuance of section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure for the maintenance of law and order and security in the city on the sacred occasion.
