DUBAI: Former president Asif Ali Zardari has congratulated the Parliament for passing legislation against rape and honour killing, ARY News reported.
The ex-president, in his statement, said that 7th October is a historic day for Pakistan. He lauded the efforts of all political parties for getting the bill passed by the Parliament.
“The suspects and convicts in honour killing and rape suspects and convicts will not be able to escape now that a law has been passed against their crime,” he said.
The Co-Chairman of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) stated the criminals will have to serve 25 years of jail sentence and cannot use religion as an excuse to escape punishment.
He also said that the passage of the law against honour killing and rape will motivate women.
Zardari said that the Parliament has done its job and expressed hope that it is fully implemented.
