Zainab’s father moves LHC for public hanging of daughter’s murderer

LAHORE: A day after an anti-terrorism court issued death warrants for Imran Ali handed down death penalty for raping and murdering Zainab, her father approached the Lahore High Court (LHC) seeking public hanging of the culprit.

Amin Ansari moved a petition in the high court, requesting it to order public hanging of his daughter’s murderer.

He contended that the cold-blooded murder of Zainab saddened the entire nation. The execution of her murderer in public would bring closure to such incidents, he added.

The petitioner argued the murderer can be publicly executed under the Anti-Terrorism Act.

The convict will be sent to the gallows on the morning of October 17 at the Lahore Central Jail. He was found guilty of rape and murder of seven minors including Zainab.

The warrants were issued after President Arif Alvi rejected the mercy plea on October 10.

Death row prisoner Imran Ali was handed four counts of death penalty, one life term, a 7-year jail term and Rs4.1 million in fines in the Zainab rape and murder case.
