ISLAMABAD: Chairman of Implementation Committee of Diamer-Bhasha and Mohmand dams Lieutenant General retired Muzammil Hussain has informed the Supreme Court that construction work on the two dams is expected to start next year.
He was briefing a four-member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Mian Saqib Nisar.
He informed the bench about setting up of seven sub-committees to identify impediments which may hinder the projects and the ways and means to remove those hurdles effectively.
Mr. Hussain, who also heads WAPDA, informed that in view of the procurement timelines determined by the Implementation Committee, construction work on Mohmand Dam Project is expected to commence early next year, whereas an all out effort is also being made to start construction of Diamer-Bhasha Dam Project next year.
On the recommendations of the Committee regarding appointment of monitoring Judge for Diamer Bhasha and Mohmand dams, Chief Justice of Pakistan said that this bench will act as monitoring bench for overall implementation of the two dams being a glorious national cause.
In pursuance of directives of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, the State Bank of Pakistan has established “Supreme Court of Pakistan’s Diamer Bhasha and Mohmand Dams Fund” for raising funds for the construction of Diamer Bhasha and Mohmand Dams.
