He was speaking to newsmen in Islamabad where he said that Pakistan desires resolution of the Kashmir dispute peacefully though dialogue.
The Foreign Secretary said India should come to the negotiating table on the Kashmir issue. He said he had invited his Indian counterpart for talks on the Kashmir issue, who refused after initially accepting it. To a question, he said Pakistan has suffered the most from terrorism in the region.
Aziz briefs ambassadors on human rights violations in Indian-occupied Kashmir
Adviser on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz briefed the ambassadors of the Permanent Members of the UN Security Council and the European Union over the killings and serious human rights violations being committed by in Indian-occupied Kashmir.
Aziz deplored the lethal use of force by the Indian forces against the innocent Kashmiri people which cannot deter them from their struggle for the right to self determination. He conveyed serious concerns over the bloodshed which has claimed the lives of over 80 people and has left around 7000 injured.
He regretted the refusal from the India for talks on the Kashmir dispute, and briefed the ambassadors over the exchange of letters between the Foreign Secretary and his Indian counterpart.
Aziz stated that the international community has an important role to uphold the principles of human rights and international humanitarian law. He urged them to fulfill their commitments to the people of Kashmir under the UN Security Council resolutions.
The P-5 and EU ambassadors acknowledged the importance of dialogue to address the long standing issue and the prevailing grave situation. They stressed on the need to resolve the issue peacefully and appreciated the readiness for dialogue by Pakistan.
