WASHINGTON: United States has appreciated the change of guard in Pakistan Army and felicitated the new chief of Pakistan Army General Qamar Javed Bajwa, ARY News reported.
Deputy Spokesperson of the state department Mark Toner was addressing a press briefing here.
Replying to a question raised by an Indian journalist, the spokesman said that COAS Bajwa should be given time to work as he has just taken charge of his office.
When the Indian journalist accused Pakistan of harboring terrorists, the spokesman said that he cannot answer the assumptions being uttered by him. “It has not been confirmed if terrorists are being trained in Pakistan,” Toner said.
The state department spokesman also said that United States will continue to cooperate with Pakistan against terrorism adding that there are safe havens of terrorists in the region.
The state department spokesman said that it is in the interest of Pakistan to destroy the hideouts of terrorists.
“Pakistan has paid a heavy price in the war against terrorism,” he said.
