Unfortunate that finance minister facing graft trial: Rasheed

ISLAMABAD: Awami Mulsim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed on Wednesday said it is unfortunate that a sitting finance minister has been on trial for accumulating assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.

Speaking to ARY News, Rasheed slammed Finance Minister Ishaq Dar for not resigning in the aftermath of a National Accountability Bureau (NAB) reference against him, saying that it is a matter of shame that he is still holding office.

What else could be more humiliating for democracy than a minister sticking to his office despite facing a graft case, he questioned and added that he was ashamed to see such derision of the country.

An accountability court on Wednesday indicted Finance Minister Ishaq Dar in a reference filed against him by National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for having assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. Judge Muhammad Bashir read out charges against the minister, which he denied and opted to contest them.

Earlier, the AML chief had demanded of the authorities concerned to place the names of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, his brother Shahbaz Sharif and members of their family on the ECL.

Sharif and his children – Hussain, Hassan, Maryam Nawaz and her husband retired Capt Safdar are facing NAB references with regard to corruption and money-laundering.
