Two Pakistani women released from Indian prison after 10 years

LAHORE: Two Pakistani women along with a 10-year old kid have been released from India’s Amritsar jail after spending a decade in prison, ARY News reported.

The women still have to spend few more days patiently as they were reportedly lacking travel documents to return to Pakistan.

Back in 2006, two Pakistani women, Fatima and Mumtaz, along with their mother were traveling from Pakistan to India in Samjhouta train when they were arrested at Attari railway station in India for allegedly carrying narcotics in their possession.

The Indian court then pronounced ten years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Indian Rs 400,000.

Their journey added difficulties when their mother passed away just after the court orders.

The unfortunate women were unable to pay the amount and spent a decade in Indian jail.

It took a 10-year period of time to get released from Indian imprisonment when an Indian NGO paid the amount to the court.

At the time of arrest, Fatima was pregnant and had delivered a girl, Hina, in the jail

Both women were said to be happy after getting released from the prison. However, their journey did not come to an end as they still need travel documents to return back to their native town of Gujranwala in Punjab.
