Police said they detained two dacoits, involved in a number of criminal activities, including attempted murder, and robbery. The police personnel along with the arrested suspects were going to round up their accomplices, when they opened fire on the police team.
In an ensuing encounter, both the suspects in police custody were killed, a police official said and added the dead have been shifted to a hospital for medico-legal formalities.
He, however, said the two accomplices managed to flee from the scene.
Earlier, two suspected terrorists were shot dead and four others had managed to escape after a fierce gunfight with the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) of Punjab police in Jalalpur Pirwala in Multan.
According to the CTD police, a targeted raid was carried out in Jalalpur Pirwala area following a tip-off about the presence of terrorists there.
CTD officials said as the law enforcement personnel cordoned off the area and challenged the terrorists to surrender, they opened fire on the personnel instead. In the retaliatory fire, two terrorists were killed while four others managed to escape the scene of the encounter.
The officials said they have recovered arms, hand grenade and explosive material from their possession.
