Muharram terror bid foiled as AQIS weapons recovered in Karachi

KARACHI: Police on Wednesday claimed to have foiled a major terror bid planned for the month of Muharram after recovering a large cache of ammunition belonging to a proscribed outfit, ARY New reported. 

Police conducted a raid in Burmi Colony of Landhi. However, four terrorists including Ilyas and Saeed Lohar allegedly belonging to Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent managed to escape.

Police recovered a large of ammunition buried underground which was likely to shift to

another location. This includes over one kilogram of explosive material, four hand grenades, five improvised bombs, ten rocket launchers and five shells, three Kalashnikov rifles, two 7mm pistols and thousands of ammunition.

SP Arif Rao said that the weapons were to used for terror activities in the month of Muharram. He confirmed that the terror network belonged to Al-Qaeda in the Indian subcontinent.
