Teenager killed during police raid against drug peddlers

KARACHI: Residents of Khilji Goth on Saturday staged a protest on Superhighway against killing of a teenage boy during a police crackdown on drug peddlers, ARY News reported.

Karachi-Hyderabad Motorway near Khilji Goth was blocked as the residents staged protest by placing corpse of the 17-year-old victim in the middle of the road.

The demonstrators also pelted stones at police mobile vans and at the Gadap police station.

The residents of the area said police arrested 10 people in the operation. But, police resorted to aerial firing when they were leaving the area. Bilal was killed and Shakeel, 18-year-old, was critically injured in the firing, they said.

The injured was rushed to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center, the residents said.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Malir Shiraz Nazir said police were carrying a raid in Khilji Goth against drug traffickers when the latter began firing.

He said few policemen also got injured as the suspects attacked the police van with stones.

The SSP Malir said that the two drug dealers were injured during the firing, while another two were arrested.
