‘No threats given to paralysed girl’s father’; SP Gulshan rejects video

KARACHI: Superintendent Police (SP) Gulshan Tahir Noorani has rejected his own video which had showed him threatening father of Nishwa, a nine-month-old girl who was paralysed due to the negligence of staff members of Darul Sehat Hospital in Karachi, ARY News reported.

Tahir Noorani, in a new video surfaced on Tuesday, claimed that he hadn’t threatened anyone after visiting the private hospital in Gulistan-e-Jauhar, rejecting media reports circulating against him.

“I visited the hospital at 10:30 pm and inquired for the girl’s father but I wasn’t given proper information for him. I was told by people that her [Nishwa’s] father [Qaiser Ali] was sitting with the hospital’s administration for some sort of discussion,” Noorani said.

“I was also refused to meet him in person despite I told them for arriving here to provide legal assistance and the department will also register a First Investigation Report (FIR) besides arresting nominated persons in the case,” added the high-rank police officer.

While concluding his video message, Noorani said, “All reports that are being aired on media are baseless and I categorically reject it as no threats were made to the family.”

Contrary to Noorani’s recent statement, Nishwa’s father had alleged that he has received serious threats by the police officer, who warned him of severe consequences over raising voice against criminal negligence of the hospital administration.

A recorded video was also emerged, which was acquired by ARY News, showed that Noorani was interacting with Qaiser Ali in presence of other people reportedly inside the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital.

Qaiser Ali told ARY News that he received direct threats from the high ranking police officer, who forced him to withdraw his demands for action against the hospital.

Noorani’s statement raged people there, who further asked him to briefly define them the warning he wanted to issue to the affectee’s father.

Ali said, “The SP told me to thinks thoroughly before taking further action. He threatened me with severe consequences to me and my family if you have registered a First Investigation Report (FIR) [in this case] as nothing would have happened to the hospital. Even, the police officer was asking me to step back from registering the complaint.”

Ali further said, “It is our good luck that the video was recorded at that time. If they question me for my belief in justice, I will show them this video recording. What should I expect from them for getting justice after registration of FIR.”

While taking immediate action, AIG Karachi Amir Ahmed Shaikh had ordered Tahir Noorani to step down from his position until completion of the investigation. The AIG Karachi also directed the authorities to complete the case inquiry within 48 hours.
