Sindh seeks technical support from Uzbekistan for agricultural growth

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Tuesday sought technical support from Uzbekistan and Belarus to accelerate agricultural growth.

According to a statement released from his office, Sindh CM Murad Ali Shah held separate meetings with Mr Furqat Sidiqov, ambassador of Uzbekistan and Mr Andrei Ermolovich, envoy of Belarus and underscored the need of agricultural innovation.

Sindh CM said that they were working on mechanized agriculture to increase agricultural productivity in the province.

Talking to Uzbekistan’s ambassador Furqat Sidiqov, Murad Ali Shah said, “I want to introduce latest techniques of sowing and picking cotton so that best yield and quality picking could be ensured.”

Furqat Sidiqov offered to establish a technical institute and a special plant to manufacture agriculture machinery in Sindh.

The chief minister felicitated Uzbek envoy over launching direct flight operation from Lahore to Uzbekistan and Pak-Uzbek Economic Forum.

Agriculture development under CPEC to reduce trade deficit with China: SBP

The recent inclusion of agriculture sector in the Long Term Plan of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) provides Pakistan an opportunity to significantly reduce its huge trade deficit of around US$9 billion with China.

In agriculture sector, out of China’s global food imports of around $99.6 billion, Pakistan’s share is only around 0.37 percent (roughly $ 0.4 billion).
