KARACHI: Sindh government has curtailed the powers of Inspector General Police (IGP), AD Khawaja, with regard to transfer and posting of Superintendents of Police (SP) (BS-18) and Senior Superintendents of Police (SSP) (BS-19) in the province.
A notification, approved by provincial chief minister Syed Murad Ali, was issued on Friday which empowers the Services & General Administration and Coordination Department of the provincial government to decide the transfers and postings of senior police officials with direct approval of the chief minister.
The order is in accordance with Rule 9(2) of the Sindh Civil Servants (Appointment, Promotion & Transfer) Rules, 1974, according to the notification.
“The government’s order of August 9, 2016, whereby powers were delegated to the IGP for transfers and postings of SPs and SSPs “is hereby cancelled/withdrawn,” reads the notification.
It is worth mentioning here that the provincial government in March had surrendered the services of the police chief back to the federal government but the move was stayed after social activists petitioned the Sindh High Court over the matter.
The high court issued a stay order against the government decision and the case has been under hearing in the court.
