Sindh Assembly vehicle snatched from Karachi’s Sachal Goth

KARACHI: Days after Mayor Karachi Wasim Akhtar lost his official car, another government vehicle has been stolen in Karachi, ARY News reported on Monday.

According to details, a Sindh Assembly vehicle bearing registration number GSC-748 was snatched on gunpoint in Sachal Goth police jurisdiction in the city.

The driver assigned to the vehicle allotted to Sindh Assembly officers arrived in Sachal Goth to meet friends when armed robbers snatched the government vehicle from him, police say.

A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered in Sachal police station on behalf of a Sindh Assembly employee Farhan Ali.

It is pertinent to note here that  Mayor Karachi Wasim Akhtar’s official vehicle was snatched at gunpoint in the Defence Housing Society (DHA) area of the city on Saturday, September 8.

The mayor, however, was not in the car when it was snatched by armed culprits in Khayaban-e-Bukhari in DHA. His chauffeur was driving the vehicle, a black Toyota Corolla, at the time of the incident. According to reports, the car bore registration number JS-999.

Street crimes, including robberies, car and motorbike snatching and theft have surged again to an alarming level in the port city in recent days.

The government had launched a law enforcement operation in Karachi led by Rangers in September 2013, to curb terrorism, targeted killings, extortion and kidnapping for ransom in the city. The operation was succeeded in creating semblance of peace and security in the city.
