ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif has said that they will demand investigation into alleged election rigging and misconduct after taking oath of parliament.

The PML-N president, while speaking to journalists, said that the issue of rigging will be raised in the first session of parliament after the elected parliamentarians have been sworn in.

He said that political parties protested over the alleged rigging yesterday with a lot of enthusiasm and determination. However, he said that unfortunately he couldn’t participate in the protests due to the inclement weather.

He further said that it is the right of political parties to demand an enquiry into election rigging, as there was injustice to the vote, and they have also demanded a parliamentary enquiry to investigate the matter.

“The opposition demands formation of a parliamentary commission. We have the right to raise our voices against rigging in elections,” he said, adding it should compromise of members from all parliamentary parties.

Shehbaz Sharif also called for an investigation into the failure of the Result Transmission System (RTS) on Election Day, the closure of the machinery, and the slow pace of vote counting, and allegations of polling agents were thrown out of polling stations.

Regarding the jailed former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, he said that he has met him in prison several times and that they has the legal right to appeal.

Shehbaz Sharif said that dialogue was the way forward, but no one was asking for an NRO (National Reconciliation Ordinance) neither would anyone give one. “Discussions do not mean NRO. Neither does anyone want to give NRO, nor does anyone want to take it,” he stated.

Shahbaz alleged that the Election Day was marred with rigging with sale and purchase of votes, arrests of political workers, and was an embarrassment to humanity, saying they will celebrate Independence Day, but not the general elections.
