SHC adjourns hearing against Lanjar till April 30

KARACHI: Former Sindh’s minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar on Tuesday appeared before the Sindh High Court (SHC) in a reference related to alleged corruption and misuse of his authority.

As the hearing of the case went underway, the Investigation Officer (IO) of National Accountability Bureau informed the hournable court that investigation against Lanjar was underway and sought time of 4 weeks for the report into the scam.

The court accepting the NAB plea deferred the hearing until April 30.

Earlier on February 14, the SHC had ordered the NAB to file a reference against Ziaul Hassan Lanjar for alleged corruption and abuse of his powers.

The NAB

prosecutor informed the court that Ziaul Hassan Lanjar was not cooperating in the probe. Directing the former provincial minister to cooperate with the accountability watchdog, the bench remarked, “Respond to the questionnaire that NAB issues.”

According to the NAB, they had traced Lanjar’s bungalow in Karachi’s Defence area worth Rs 90 million which was not mentioned in his asset declaration form.

During the inquiry, it was found that the sale agreement of the bungalow is in his name and but he has transferred the property in his father-in-law’s name. Lanjar through a front-man deposited public funds, including that of a medical college, in his own accounts.”
