ISLAMABAD: While presenting closing arguments on Wednesday in Avenfield properties reference, National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Deputy Prosecutor General Sardar Muzaffar Abbasi stated that Nawaz Sharif and his family have failed to provide evidence for their source of income.
Judge Mohammed Bashir was hearing the case where NAB prosecutor accused Maryam Nawaz of concealing facts and her attempts of misleading the investigating agency.
The NAB prosecutor further remarked that Nawaz Sharif is aware of the fact that he is the owner of London flats since 1993 and had been residing there and paying its ground rent which is only paid by an owner of the property.
“All of these facts link Nawaz’s ownership of the London flats since 1993,” he added.
Before the accountability court, Sardar Muzaffar said that Hussain Nawaz was also the resident of London flats in 1993 and paid its ground rent and utility bills, whereas Hasan Nawaz also admitted that he shifted to London flats in 1994.
“Muhammad Nawaz Sharif was the actual owner of Gulf Steel Mills,” the NAB prosecutor claimed.
Earlier the defense counsel Zafar Khan filed an a one-day exemption plea for Maryam and retired Captain Safdar. He said that Safdar was in Mansehra to obtain nomination papers for upcoming elections.
However, Nawaz Sharif appeared before the court to mark his attendance and left soon afterwards. The hearing has been adjourned till tomorrow.
The Avenfield reference, pertaining to the Sharif family’s London properties, is among three references against the Sharif family filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) last year on the orders of the Supreme Court.
