Abbasi says multi-party conference to consider toppling PTI govt

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) stalwart and former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said on Thursday that the combined opposition’s multi-party conference (MPC) to be held after Eid will consider all options, including the removal of the PTI government.

Speaking to the media, he said if the MPC decides to topple the government, they will implement the decision.

“The government has failed to deliver,” he said, advising opposition politicians to put their differences aside to resolve the issues facing the masses.

Abbasi said the MPC will decide a course of action while remaining within the ambit of the country’s Constitution.

He said Maulana Fazlur Rehman, chief of his own faction of the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (JUIF), will set a date for the MPC.

The PML-N leader had earlier this week said the joint opposition will look after the interests of the public. “If the public interests is in toppling of the government, then it will be dislodged.”

Addressing a joint press conference following an Iftar-dinner hosted by him last Sunday, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had said that no party alone could solve Pakistan’s problems. “Every party has its own manifesto, and united they can come up with the best policy [for public interest],” he said.

Bilawal said that opposition political parties will protest inside and outside the parliament after Eid.

“Also, post-Eid there will be an all-parties conference chaired by Maulana Fazlur Rehman”, he announced.
