The star all-rounder after setting numerous records in his cricketing career has also set an example regarding charity and welfare works.
In March 2014, he set up Shahid Afridi Foundation (SAF) with the objective to provide basic healthcare and education to the people of Pakistan. He decided to start from his own hometown, investing his personal capital, seeking human resource from his blood relatives, in his very village, and finally managed to achieve this noble cause.
The village named Tangi Banda deserved attention and so the Pakistan T20 skipper felt a dire need to undertake this mission personally under the slogan ‘Hope – Not Out!’
The star all-rounder considers it a way of paying back to the country and his fellowmen, for the love and empowerment they have showered him with, throughout his impressive career.
The Shahid Afridi Foundation aspires to upgrade the quality of life of the common man by imparting free education, providing basic healthcare services and helping people make a living with grace, with pride. He wishes to empower the population with health, confidence and education.
Medical facilities offered there are either completely free of cost or at a minimal Out-Patient rates for the underprivileged, simple people of Kohat, with little or no means to basic healthcare.
As many as 14 villages within the radius of 10 to 15 km are dependent on this very hospital. It is therefore a much needed step and a dream-come-true for the population of these 14 villages surrounding it.
In recognition of this initiative, Shahid Afridi was named among top 20 most charitable athletes of 2015 from around the world by DoSomething.org.
