Shah Mahmood Qureshi meets Russian, Afghan foreign ministers

ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Thursday said that he had met Afghanistan’s Foreign Minister Amir Khan Mottaqi and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov during a meeting on Afghanistan in China, ARY NEWS reported.   

Sharing details of his meetings in China from his Twitter handle, Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that he met acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Mottaqi in China and shared importance of continued engagement between Afghanistan and international community to achieve independent, stable and united country.

Qureshi further shared importance of equal respect for rights of men and women and hope for interim government to take more steps towards inclusivity.

The foreign minister further shared details of his meeting with Russian counterpart and said that it was good to meet Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov to discuss important regional and bilateral ties.

“Shared our hope for talks between representatives of the Russian Federation and Ukraine to succeed for a diplomatic solution. We stand ready to help facilitate a peaceful solution.”

Qureshi while sharing details of the 3rd meeting of the neighbouring countries of Afghanistan said that it was Pakistan that initiated this format last year based on importance of neighbouring countries unifying for a common approach.

“We also welcomed [foreign ministers] of Qatar and Indonesia whose participation added value to our discussions and indeed our unified support for a peaceful and prosperous Afghanistan,” he said.
