Seven abducted policemen recovered after talks with bandits

Police and the Rangers had launched a joint operation in Katcha area close to Rahim Yar Khan to recover seven cops held hostage by the bandits.

Heavy contingents of police from Punjab and Sindh reached Katcha area on Sunday afternoon and launched a joint operation also assisted by gunship helicopters to recover the abducted cops.

The grand and air operation of the law enforcement agencies however failed to attain its objective.

According to sources, the authorities got the help of the influential persons of the Katcha area and after a Jirga which continued for the entire night the gangs of bandits conceded to free the kidnapped policemen on the condition of safe passage for the outlaws.

As a result the dacoits freed the seven abducted policemen in lieu of a safe passage.

Notorious bandits Sultu Shar and Chhotu Bakhrani attacked a police post close to Sindh-Punjab border along with other gang members and whisked away seven cops including an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) with their arms.

Riverine forests along Indus

The riverine forests in the province of Sindh and southern belt of Punjab have remain a hotbed of bandit gangs involved in kidnappings and other crimes on the both banks of the Indus River. These areas are inaccessible and virtually a no go area for police and other law enforcement agencies. So as, remain an ideal refuge for the outlaws.
