ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly on Friday unanimously passed a resolution commending the role of Pakistani women in the nation building.
The resolution moved by Nuzhat Sadiq on the occasion of International Women Day, demanded that concretes steps should be taken for women empowerment.
In his remarks on the occasion, Chairman Senate Sadiq Sanjrani appreciated the contributions of Pakistani women in different fields including politics and sports. He said such an environment should be created that enable our women to move forward without any impediment.
The Senate held discussion to commemorate the International Women’s Day.
Initiating the debate, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Senator Sassui Palijo hailed the services of Fatima Jinnah, Benazir Bhutto, Kalsoom Nawaz, Asmaa Jehangir and others for the cause of democracy in the country. She said that women should be given equal perks and privileges as per their male counterparts in the fields they were serving.
Veteran PPP leader Sherry Rehman said the PPP had always raised voice for the rights of women.

Awami National Party Senator Sitara Ayaz said, “Our women are excelling in different areas which depict that they are second to none.” She said our women Parliamentarians were actively participating in the proceedings of the House and bringing legislation on important matters.
PPP Senator Rubina Khalid called for economic empowerment of women folk.
Muttahida Qaumi Movemen-Pakistan (MQM-P) Nighat Mirza stressed the need for creating awareness amongst the people about the rights of women.
Senator Quratulain Marri said that curbs on women should be lifted and they should be provided conducive environment to leave an impact on the society.
Senator Sana Jamali recalled that women played an active role in the independence movement. She said personalities like Fatima Jinnah and Benazir Bhutto were a role model for us.
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Senator Kalsoom Parveen said Islam gives great respect and honor to women. She said that we should follow the Islamic injunctions for empowerment of women. She regretted that women in our society are not being given their share in inheritance.
Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Ali Muhammad said the lives of Ummahat-ul Momineen were a role model for all of us. He said the government was committed to work towards the empowerment of women.
Earlier, when the House started discussion on International Women Day, Chairman Senate Sadiq Sanjrani left the seat for Senator Keshoo Bai to preside the session.
The House also adopted a motion authorising the chairman Senate to make nomination of six members of the Upper House to the Parliamentary Committee on Kashmir.
A motion to this effect was moved by Leader of the House Shibli Faraz.
