The apex court in order to elaborate the point – how many parliamentarians could be declared as ineligible under the articles 62 and 62 of the Constitution – constituted a seven-member larger bench headed by the Chief Justice Nasirul Mulk.
Earlier, Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PMLQ) had filed petitions within the apex court seeking disqualification of the Prime Minister, Nawaz Sharif.
During the hearing conducted by a three-member bench headed by Justice Jawwad, lawyers in their arguments had raised some important points.
Keeping in view the significance of the matter, the three-member bench which was hearing the case had requested the chief justice to constitute a larger bench, which was formed today.
Moreover, the hearing of the case is likely to take place next week.
