Saudi-bound passenger held after seizure of ice at Peshawar airport

PESHAWAR: Customs officials claimed to have seized 950 gram ice drug (crystal meth) worth about Rs96 million from a passenger at Bacha Khan International Airport, ARY News reported.

The suspected drug smuggler, identified as Jamshed, was travelling to Saudi Arabia via a private airline, a customs official said, adding upon suspicion, the passenger’s luggage was checked, leading to the recovery of ice.

The official said the value of the seized ice was estimated at Rs96 million. He said the suspect had been taken into custody and a case registered against him.

Yesterday, Kotli police in a major operation against drug smugglers had busted a gang of drugs smugglers in Mirpur Azad Kashmir.

The police arrested 16 members of the gang with 14 kilograms of heroin, worth hundreds of million rupees in the international market. The police officials also recovered four million rupees in cash, SSP Kotli Irfan Saleem said in a media briefing.

The arrested accused are members of an international drug gang and they were engaged in smuggling of drugs to the United Kingdom for past 30 years, the officer claimed.
