KARACHI: A raid conducted by Sar-e-Aam team had revealed that government-run laboratory which issued report regarding contents of bottle in Sharjeel Memon case was fake.
As the complete raid was aired today, it emerged that the laboratory didn’t only issue the report without conducting the tests mentioned on the document but doesn’t even have the required apparatus to perform such tests.
The report regarding the bottle’s content stated that ash and moisture tests were performed to establish that the bottles contained olive oil and honey but the staff including the Chief Pathologist and Chemical Examiner Dr Zahid Ansari failed to show the apparatus required for such tests.
Moreover, the laboratory’s expenditure record showed that the lab’s staff was bringing the grocery and other stuff for lab on more than the market-price for many years.
The most shocking part of the whole raid was that the semen department where reports of cases related to rape and sexual abuse are prepared too lacks basic facilities.
Last Saturday, Chief Justice Saqib Nisar had conducted a ‘raid’ on a room of Dr Ziauddin Hospital in Clifton, which was declared a sub-jail by provincial authorities, where the PPP lawmaker Sharjeel Memon was staying, and reportedly found two bottles of “liquor”.
Soon after the bottles were confiscated, the PPP leadership had insisted that the bottles did not contain alcohol but honey and olive oil.
The chemical report signed by Director of Laboratories and Chemical Examiner to the Government of Sindh Dr Zahid Hasan Ansari, however, stated that one bottle contained honey while the other contained olive oil.
Ansari was suspended after the Sar-e-Aam raid.
