Saqib Nisar didn’t work as CJP, but Imran Khan’s agent: PM Shehbaz

LONDON: Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday accused former chief justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar of working as ‘agent’ of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan, ARY News reported.

Talking to journalists in London, the prime minister said that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif was disqualified on the basis of ‘false and baseless allegations’.

PM Shehbaz Sharif alleged that Imran Khan was imposed on the country in 2018 through a ‘conspiracy’, adding that the ‘incompetent’ PTI chief severely damaged the economy and the country.

“Saqib Nisar led the campaign to get Nawaz Sharif disqualified on the basis of false and baseless allegations,” he alleged.

“Saqib Nisar was using the power of suo moto not in the public interest but to make Imran Khan successful”, he said adding Saqib Nisar was working not as chief justice of Pakistan (CJP) but as an agent of Imran Khan.

PM Shehbaz further said that the audio leaks had unmasked all the characters who were part of the conspiracy. “After surfacing of the audio leak, there was no doubt that there was a conspiracy and collusion to bring Imran Khan to power by any means,” he added.

He also said the National Assembly (NA) had taken up the issue of audio leak for a probe against Saqib Nisar and his son.

The prime minister said elections of National Assembly and provincial assemblies should be held on the same day according to the constitution. “It is not possible to hold elections in provinces on different dates as it will affect electoral results.”

The Parliament’s right to legislate cannot be taken away as it was the constitutional and legal right of the legislative body, he added.
