Rs 500mn allocated for reimbursement of inflated gas bills

ISLAMABAD: The Finance ministry on Monday allocated Rs 500 million for the reimbursement of the amount that was charged from the gas consumers through inflated  bills, ARY News reported.

According to well aware sources, the amount will be reimbursed to the consumer phase-wise for which Prime Minister Imran Khan has already issued directives.

“The consumers will be given relief in the billing of April, May and June”, the sources added.

It may be recalled that as many as 45,000 household consumers were slapped inflated gas bills, which had sparked protests.

Last month, Prime Minister Imran Khan had ordered the authorities concerned to reimburse the amount collected from the consumers through inflated gas bills and act against those responsible.

The prime minister chaired a high level meeting here to discuss the issue of inflated gas bills wherein he was presented a preliminary inquiry report, reported the APP.

The prime minister was told that as per the initial inquiry, 30 percent of the gas consumers were sent inflated gas bills.

Besides ordering the reversal of additional amount charged from the consumers, the prime minister had directed to continue the investigation to dig out all the facts.
The public would be updated with the future developments in this regard, said a PM Office statement.
