Rangers refute Dr Asim’s claim of ‘heavily drugged’ before confession

KARACHI: Sindh Rangers on Saturday has categorically refuted a claim made by former Petroleum Minister Dr Asim Hussain that he was heavily drugged before video recording of his confessional statement – accusing former President Asif Ali Zardari’s foster brother of being involved in all kinds of corruption – while in custody of the paramilitary force last year.

In a statement issued on Saturday, Spokesperson Sindh Rangers termed Dr Asim’s statement untrue and contrary to facts.

The statement asserted that the close aide of Asif Ali Zardari has never previously hurled such allegations on the paramilitary force during the custody and court proceedings.

Recalling references against Dr Asim, the Rangers statement said the former federal minister is currently released on bail and references against him are being heard in the courts.

On Friday, Dr Asim had claimed in a show on private TV channel that he had been drugged and he did not remember what he had said in the confessional video.

“I even do not remember what kind of drug I have been administered by Rangers personnel,” the close aide of Asif Zardari said.

It is pertinent to mention that Dr Asim’s confessional video went viral last year in which he was seen sitting on a chair and bashing the party leadership by accusing scathing allegations against Zardari’s foster brother Muzaffar alias Tappi.
