People’s Party leader Chandio in a press conference in Hyderabad asked how could a government run a province without the confidence of the ruling party?
He was responding to critics over Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah’s visit to Dubai to take the top PPP leadership into confidence over extending special police powers to the Rangers in Karachi.
He said the consultation with the leadership on national issues is necessary. The government issues could not be run on someone’s demand, he added.
Provincial Advisor, however, said that the issue of the policing power to Rangers will be resolved soon.
Chief Minister of Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah had
earlier said that he will sign on the summary of special powers for Rangers after consultation with the People’s Party leadership. The chief minister has left for Dubai to consult with party leader Asif Ali Zardari.A summary seeking 90-day extension in Rangers’ special powers was forwarded to the chief minister on previous Monday. Special policing powers to paramilitary Rangers have been expired on the midnight of July 19.
Under the National Action Plan and the Anti-Terrorism Act, the federal cabinet had empowered the Rangers to lead a targeted operation in Karachi with the support of police against criminals involved in targeted killings, kidnappings for ransom, extortion and terrorism.
