Dr Asim treated MQM, Gang War, Al Qaeda terrorists, says Rangers lawyer

During a hearing in Anti Terrorism Court on Saturday, Rangers lawyer Sajid Mahboob Shaikh said Dr Asim used to provide medical treatment to MQM terrorists. Asim provided treatment to 13 terrorists of Lyari Gang War and six members of Al Qaeda, he added.

Dr Asim’s lawyer in his arguments said Dr Asim had denied allegations in his Joint Investigation Team report. He said statement of not a single doctor, providing treatment to terrorists, was available on record.

Rangers’ lawyer said investigation officer who gathered evidences was changed and the other investigation officer altered the evidences in favor of the suspects. He said Asim Hussain was a victim of mental stress and he is being provided all kinds of medical facilities.

Dr Asim, however, rejected the claim of being provided medical facilities of all kind and said he was shown richer than Bill Gates in JIT report. He said his wife was dying in London while he was imprisoned here.

The hearing of the case has been adjourned till June 18. The next hearing would take decision on plea of bail.

In February, the accountability court hearing a corruption case against Dr Asim had sent him to prison while seeking the investigation report. Apart from terrorists’ facilitation charges, Hussain is also facing an inquiry over alleged embezzlement in public funds.

On November 30 2015, NAB had sought permission from the anti-terrorism court, where cases against Dr Asim were being heard, to question the former petroleum minister in connection with graft references.

Dr Asim was first arrested on August 26, 2015 on corruption charges and facilitation of terrorists.
