ASWJ leader arrested during ‘targeted operation’ at Karachi mosque

KARACHI: Rangers personnel on Sunday arrested Ahl-e-Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ) leader Taj Hanfi during a search operation at a mosque in Nagan Chowrangi area, ARY News reported.

The operation was launched at Siddique-e-Akbar Mosque. Law enforcement agencies seized literature advocating banned outfits and their activities besides confiscating a cache of weapons.

Hanfi, who is ASWJ’s central leader of Karachi chapter, was arrested with arms and hate literature. Sources informed that Rangers were conducting raids to capture Maulana Shoaib who had fled the scene.

On late Saturday night, law enforcement agencies had taken into custody Maulana Mirza Yousuf Hussain alongside detaining over two dozen suspects in different raids.

The raid to arrest Maulana Hussain was conducted at the scholar’s residence in Nazimabad area by Police and Rangers. He is said to be Khateeb (Speaker) of Masjid Noor-e-Iman.

It may be noted here that Hussain was also among the protesters in Ancholi the other day against the arrest of former Senator Faisal Raza Abidi.
