Rangers apprehend nine suspects during raids in Karachi

KARACHI: Sindh Rangers on Tuesday arrested nine suspects during raids in different areas of Karachi, ARY News reported.

The Rangers spokesperson said the arrested suspects were involved in street crimes.

The paramilitary force arrested eight of the suspects from Clifton area and one suspect, Rozi Khan, from Kalakot, Lyari. Rozi Khan is alleged to be involved in extortion of money.

“The captured suspects are involved in drug peddling, robbery and other street crimes. Illegal weapons, looted valuable items and narcotics have been recovered from their possession,” the spokesman said.

He said the culprits had been handed over to police for legal action.

On April 7, Sindh Rangers had apprehended nine suspects during raids in different areas of Karachi and recovered weapons from their possession.

The Rangers spokesperson had said raids were conducted in Rizvia Society, Zaman Town, Mominabad and Paposh.

The captured suspects included robbers and street criminals, the Rangers spokesman had said.

On April 6, the Sindh government had extended special policing powers granted to Rangers for 90 days within Karachi.

According to the provincial Home Department, the Sindh government had approved the summary extending the powers granted to the paramilitary force under Section 4(2) of the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) 1997 within Karachi division for 90 days.
