Rajanpur: PTI candidate secures unopposed victory in by-poll

RAJANPUR: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate Owais Dareshak on Saturday unopposed won the by-election on a provincial assembly seat PP-269 in Rajanpur, Punjab.

Owais is brother of Tariq Dareshak who was elected as the member of provincial assembly in general elections 2018. Tariq died of brain hemorrhage last month which left the seat vacant, following which his brother was issued ticket by the PTI.

It should be noted that five candidates had submitted nomination papers but four of them later withdrawn from the contest in Owais’ favor.

Returning Officer Mohammed Javed said the candidates who withdrew from the by-election had submitted an affidavit in this regard to declare the PTI candidate successful.

The Election Commission of Pakistan would release a notification for result of the seat of PP-269 afterwards.
