Rain forecast: Ghani, Akhtar call authorities to stay alert

KARACHI: Sindh Minister for Local Bodies Saeed Ghani and Mayor Karachi Waseem Akhtar on Monday directed all the local bodies’ officials to stay alert in view of the weather forecasts of thunderstorm and heavy rains.

Ghani, in his statement issued here from Karachi today, has directed all the workers to stay in field fully prepared to deal with any situation.

The minister has also directed to keep liaison with all the related departments and K-Electric to ensure immediate help in case of breakage of electric wires in any area.

On the other hand, Mayor Karachi Waseem Akhtar has also called on

the staff of the Karachi Municipal Corporation (KMC) to finalise the arrangements in order to deal with any unforeseen situation in connection with heavy downpour forecast in the city by the MET office.

Akhtar directed hospitals to complete arrangements, while the KMC staff was also directed to remove the rooted trees and polls in the various areas of the metropolis with immediate effect.

An intense dust storm hit the metropolis Sunday night and continued Monday morning, dispersing sand around the city, downing trees and blowing away roofs in some areas.
