Quality education is solution to country’s various problems, says Imran Khan

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has said that around 22.5 millions of children in the country have been deprived of education resulting in massive poverty and loss of economical activities, ARY News reported.

PTI chief was addressing a seminar on Educational Reforms and Challenges in Khyber Pakthunkhwa here on Wednesday.

Laying emphasis on quality education, he said that “Quality education can resolve many prevalent issues of the country”.

Congratulating chief minister Khyber Pakthunkhwa (KP) Pervez Khattak on establishing a street children centre in Peshawar, he said that street children have high potential to do something positive than ordinary children of the society as they seek opportunities to prove themselves worthy. “They are deprived of opportunities and the government schools lack quality education and that is how they get trapped in vicious circle”, he added.

“The country is facing an education challenge and failed

to provide quality education to the weakest segment of the society”, he said while urging policy makers to adopt such a policy that can facilitate an ordinary student to place his name among top ones.

Chairman PTI further said that provincial government of KP has allocated huge amount of funds for quality education in the province.

“The provincial government has established Namal University in Mianwali where

93 percent of students are enrolled under scholarship. The university is affiliated with an international university that awarding the students with an internationally recognized degree”, Khan said, adding, 75 percent of the students enrolled in the university had received their primary education from government schools and in Urdu medium, the university has arranged foundation classes to teach them English so they can meet the education standard and awarded with an international degree.

Citing social workers for raising their voices for women rights, he emphasized that provision of education to women would resolve many issues being faced by them. “An educated woman can resolve issues by herself being independent”, he said.

Over appointment of teachers under political affiliation, he termed it the biggest drawback of country’s educational system. Adding that over 40,000 teachers in KP were appointed on merit basis, contrary to other provinces where appointments made under nepotism and favouritism.

Moreover, he urged best academics to constitute a curriculum for government schools that could ensure provision of quality education as he opined that vast majority of children go to these schools.

Calling KP’s education system role model for entire country, he further said if his party gained power, he would allocate corruption money for provision of quality education.
