PTI led govt to present budget 2019-20 on May 22: sources

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehrek-e-Insaf (PTI) led-federal government is set to present upcoming budget for 2019-20 fiscal year on May 22, citing sources, ARY News reported.

Speaker National Assembly Asad Qaiser chaired a meeting of the House Business Advisory Committee, here today.

The committee decided to carry on the ongoing session of the national assembly till May 13 from 11 in the noon to 2 pm due to commencement of the Holy month of Ramazan.

Sources said, a budget session of the house will be called on May 21 and the government is expected to table the budget recommendations on May 22.

Earlier on April 20, Prime Minister’s adviser on finance Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh had said that he had issued directives for preparations of the upcoming budget.

In his first public statement after taking charge of the Ministry of Finance, the adviser had said that he will also speed up the talks process (for bailout package) with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Shaikh said that he has issued basic instructions for preparation of the medium term strategy paper for the upcoming budget.

Finance Adviser said that the targets for revenue and expenditure have been finalized.
