President stresses on promotion of e-voting to ensure transparency

ISLAMABAD: President Dr Arif Alvi on Friday emphasised on promotion of e-voting to ensure transparency in elections.

“Use of electronic voting machines, digital identification and cameras will enhance fairness of elections,” he said while addressing a ceremony in connection with National Voters Day in Islamabad.

This should be noted that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) decided to observe the ‘National Voters Day’ on December 7 to sensitize people about the importance of vote.

The main gathering to mark the day was observed at the President House.

The president said parliament, the Election Commission of Pakistan and the government should pay attention to these matters so that post-election controversy can be avoided.

Arif Alvi lauded the election commission for introducing Result Management System in the last elections. He said the ECP’s voter SMS service to get details of polling stations also proved quite helpful for voters.

He said voting facility to overseas Pakistan was a positive step, which should be properly propagated in the media.

The president said fair and free elections provided basis to democracy and progress of a country. He said voters had an important role in strengthening democratic values.
