LIVE UPDATES: Counter-terrorism drive to continue till elimination of last terrorist: President Mamnoon

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, services chiefs, foreign diplomats and other dignitaries have been present during President Mamnoon Hussain’s address to the parliament.

President congratulated the members of the parliament for completion of its second year.

The President said that the supremacy of the constitution and the law guides a country to attain its goals of national development and progress.

President Mamnoon Hussain said that the counter-terrorism operation in the country will remain continue till the elimination of last terrorist from Pakistan.

President expressed hope that the parliament will fulfill the cherished aspirations of the people of the country.

He further said that the democracy has stabilized in the country and seeking solution of problems with mutual understanding is a good omen for the nation.

President Mamnoon Hussain stressed the need for completion of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). He said Pakistan have to work very hard to complete the project.

He said no part of the country will be deprived of the benefits of the project adding that the economic corridor can change the fate of the region.

He said that Pak-China friendship would be an example to the world.

President said that the terrorists will find no place of hiding in the country. He said the challenges faced by the nation being addressed effectively and maintained that the people belonging to any school of thought or faith have been equal citizens in the country.

President Mamnoon said that a nation could not achieve its cherished dream of progress without maintenance of peace. He called the National Action Plan for counter-terrorism a milestone in the history of the country. He said that Operation Zarb-e-Azb will remain continue till the elimination of the last terrorist from Pakistan.

He expressed hope that the conditions in Karachi and Balochistan will return to normalcy soon.

The members of the parliament heard President Mamnoon Hussain’s address with applause.

Speaker Ayaz Sadiq announced adjournment of the session after the President completed his address to the parliament.

Presidential address to the joint session of the parliament on the beginning of the new parliamentary year is a constitutional requirement.

The 14th national assembly of Pakistan last month completed its second parliamentary year.

President in his address to the parliament provides guidance to the parliament for the next parliamentary year in his address. Foreign envoys, governors, chief ministers and higher civil, military officials were present on the occasion.

Previously former president Asif Ali Zardari had the honor to address the joint parliamentary session for record six times.
