KARACHI: President Dr Arif Alvi on Tuesday visited the family of a police officer who embraced martyrdom in a gun-and-grenade attack on the Chinese consulate in Karachi last week.
In a tweet, he said: “I visited the family of ASI Ashraf Dawood who embraced shahadat at the Chinese consulate. He has left behind as ‘amanat’ for us, two lovely daughters 8 & 9 and a 3 year old son.”
“We are thankful to our heroes who lay down their lives so that we may live in peace,” he added.
At least two policemen were killed when unidentified gunmen tried to storm the Chinese consulate in Karachi on Friday morning. Three assailants wearing suicide jackets tried to enter the consulate but were intercepted by security guards at a checkpoint, according to police.
An exchange of fire resulted in the killing of all the assailants, while two policemen also embraced martyrdom in the gun battle.
