President Alvi stresses on measures to promote IT sector

ISLAMABAD: President Arif Alvi has said all necessary measures should be taken to promote the information technology and telecommunication industry as there is a huge potential of exports and employment generation.

The president was speaker to federal minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui who called on him at the Aiwan-e-Sadr Islamabad.

The president underlined that development in Information Technology and Telecommunication holds the key for the future development of the country.

“Its efficient use can help in improving the public services delivery structure of the country through digitalization of different ministries and departments of the government,” he said.

He stressed that research and development in this sector should be patronised to open up new avenues of progress in this sector.

The president also appreciated the steps being taken by the ministry for the promotion of IT and telecommunications in the country.

‘Paperless govt’

Prime Minister Imran Khan has also directed to increase the use of information technology to save precious resources and move towards paperless government.

The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf, ahead of the general election, had launched first major digital policy aimed at transforming Pakistan into a knowledge economy, making IT the top contributor to country’s exports and job creation.

Announcing the policy, Finance Minister Asad Umar had said the policy was formulated after consultations with the IT industry and others stakeholders. He said the policy could give their inputs which would be incorporated in the revise policy.

He said PTI’s vision for a digital Pakistan would not only create an unprecedented amount of jobs in the IT sector, but also become an enabler for transforming the rest of the economy.
