PPP marks July 5 as Black Day

July 5, 1977 – then Army Chief, General Zia ul Haq had announced that martial law had been imposed, the constitution is in abeyance and  all assemblies stand dissolved.

Moreover, he had pledged to hold elections within ninety days.

Zia had imposed martial law after throwing away the government of PPP founder and Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, PPP observes July 5 as a Black Day every year.

Former President, Asif Ali Zardari in his statement, referred to July 5 as the darkest day in the history of Pakistan and a day of accountability of all the dictators, which reminds the nation of strengthening democracy.

He urged the nation to pledge efforts for ensuring democracy and the rule of law in the state and not allowing any dictator to overthrow a democratically elected government.
