PPP holds ‘high-level meeting’ in Dubai to decide upon Rangers’ powers

The recent controversy over the arrest of Asad Kharal – a purported friend of the home minister – who has been accused of misappropriation of government funds and having links with criminals and the infamous Panama Leaks Scandal would also come under discussion during the two-day meet in Dubai.

PPP’s Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari flew to Dubai for the meeting from Karachi while his father and party co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari has already reached the UAE city from London.

Important PPP players including Chief Minister Sindh Qaim Ali, Faryal Talpur and Sindh Home Minister Sohail Anwar Sial would also attend the meeting chaired by Zardari.

The former president has also called upon Farooq H. Naek and former governor Punjab Lateef Khosa to discuss legal aspects of the issues on the agenda of the crucial meeting.

A part of the meeting would also cover political challenges in Sindh, provincial cabinet’s performance and the reasons behind PPP’s failures in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Legislative Assembly elections.

They would also join their heads to come up with a future strategy against the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) over Panama terms of reference (TORs).

On Friday, Karachi corps commander Lieutenant General Naveed Mukhtar also called on Sindh CM to resolve differences over the extension of Rangers’ powers, which expired on July 19.

He assured the Sindh government that Rangers would not take action against without government’s consent.

“Whatever steps the Sindh government will take in the matter of extension of the duration of Rangers special policing powers in Karachi, it will be as per the constitution,” said Leader of the opposition in the National Assembly (NA) Khursheed Shah.
