KARACHI: Sindh High Court (SHC) on Wednesday expressed resentment over unannounced power load shedding in Karachi by K-Electric, ARY News reported.
The bench while hearing a petition against unannounced load shedding in the city, summoned the top officials of the city’s power utility, K-Electric on May 29th.
The bench asked the power utility to inform the court what measures have been taken to avoid electricity load sheddin in the city.
Advocate Faisal Siddiqui contended to the bench that the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) had stopped K-Electric from unannounced load shedding but the load shedding hours have been increased and people facing hardships.
Justice Irfan Sadaat Khan remarked, “The K-Electric waiting for more deaths in the city?” K-Electric and NEPRA could not overcome the menace of load shedding.”
The power utility’s counsel said that the recent load shedding caused by falling of a power pylon in Jamshoro and shortage of gas. The government of Sindh also protesting against the load shedding of gas, the lawyer said.
Advocate Faisal Siddiqui informed the bench that the power utility resorting to an unjust load shedding as the poor localities of the city suffering maximum hours of the power outages in this sweltering weather.
Siddiqui sought for an order about load shedding rules as per the NEPRA laws.
The counsel of K-Electric asked the court to prohibit media coverage of the load shedding order.
