KARACHI: People couldn’t help but curse K-Electric, the city’s chief power distribution company, for carrying out prolonged announced and unannounced load-shedding in fasting days of Ramzan and intense heatwave across the metropolis.
The areas that were badly affected by prolonged outages were Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Soldier Bazaar, Malir, and Korangi.
Perturbed by the power cuts amid sweltering heat, the residents of Malir district took to the streets and blocked the Malir River flyover suspending vehicular traffic for several hours. Whereas, traffic remained suspended on the National High Way for hours as citizens held a protest demonstration against the outages.
Enraged protestors dispersed peacefully after police assured them that the concerned authorities have taken notice of the protest and effective measures would be taken in this regard.
The rest of the province went through similar mental and physical agonies of prolonged and unannounced load-shedding coupled with sweltering weather. Power supply companies continued to carry out load-shedding throughout Sehri, Iftari and Tarveeh prayers timings across Sindh.
Hyderabad, Jamshoro, Nawabshah, Dadu, Thatta, Sanghar and other districts of the province had to face power breakdowns due to technical faults in a fragile power transmission system.
