GILGIT: At least three policemen were killed while two others were injured in an armed attack on a police check post near Kargah Nala area of Gilgit Baltistan region on Friday night, ARY News reported.
Police said a suspected terrorist was also killed during the attack.
As per details, unidentified assailants opened fire at the police personnel manning the check post. As a result, three personnel were killed while two others sustained wounds.
A suspected attacker was also killed when the policemen returned fire.
The deceased and the injured were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital.
Following the attack, a strong contingent of the police reached the site and cordoned it off to gather evidence.
An extensive search is underway to arrest the attackers.
A spokesperson of the Gilgit Baltistan regional government said preliminary investigation indicates that eight to ten terrorists attacked the check post.
