May 12 case: Charge-sheet filed in court against Waseem Akhtar, others

Police have filed charge-sheet against Akhtar in attempt to murder and other charges in the court.

The cases have been transferred to anti-terrorism court II.

According to the police charge-sheet 20 accused of the case including Waseem Akhtar have been arrested, while 17 others are still at large.

The accused have been charged of attempt to murder, rioting, firing, arson attacks and ransacking property in the jurisdiction of Airport police station.

The mayor of Karachi facing a number of cases including May 12 massacre in the city, terrorism facilitation etc.

On May 12, 2007, on the occasion of the then deposed Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry’s visit to the city, clashes broke out among the armed workers of rival political parties in Karachi as more than fifty people were killed and scores of others were injured.

Opposition parties at that time blamed MQM, an ally of then military ruler General Musharraf, for the violence in the city.
