Police confiscate fake ballot papers in Umerkot, arrest five people

UMERKOT: Police in Umerkot apprehended at least five people suspected behind publishing fake ballot papers ahead of the election day.

The law enforcers say that the fake ballot papers were being transported to PS-52, a constituency with bigwig contestants like Arbab Ghulam Rahim (Grand Democratic Alliance), Syed Ali Mardan Shah (PPPP), Neelam Walgi (PML-N) and Ms Salma (MMA).

The arrested suspects were identified as Anwar Soomro, Hakim, Iqbal, Kanghar and Nawab.

Couple of days ago, an incident was reported in PS-80 Sehwan Sharif in district Jamshoro where stamps were being placed on the postal ballot papers.

Former chief minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah is among the candidates contesting from the constituency.

The stamps were being placed in the Education Office where an official of the Primary Teachers Association and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) activist was found involved in the activity.

Police arrested Aziz Rahupoto and five others in the office of Qurban Ali Memon. More than 200 ballot papers were also found from their possession. The arrests were made after the accused were pointed out by members of a rival political party.

Similarly a day ago, police arrested a presiding officer of Karachi’s PS-93 constituency under charges of a fraud attempt.

According to Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Samee Ullah Soomro, a presiding officer who is identified as Waheedullah, was assigned a polling station of PS-93 as a presiding officer. However, Waheedullah sent a substitute in his place who exposed before the Returning Officer.

The police on orders of the RO arrested Waheedullah, while his substitute Zubair, escaped from the scene.
