KARACHI: Police on Sunday arrested a cleric on charges of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old seminary student in Gulistan-e-Johar area of the city.
The victim informed police that Qari Muhammad Saleem sexually assaulted him on Saturday night inside the madressah, prompting police to take action against the cleric. Subsequently, Qari Saleem was arrested in a raid conducted by police.
According to police, medical examination confirmed the teenager had been subjected to ‘unnatural offence’.
A case has been registered against the cleric under Section 377 of the Pakistan Penal Code.
Moreover, Sindh Home Minister Sohail Anwar Khan Siyal has also taken notice of the incident, seeking a detailed inquiry report from police.
A number of sexual assault cases against minors in the country have recently surfaced in the past month.
