PMLN, PPP united against horse-trading

Holding a joint press conference here, PPP leader Raja Pervez Ashraf announced that the two parties have decided to prevent horse-trading and for this a joint strategy will be devised mutually.

He stressed that not just Senate polls, but all the elections taking place in the country should be made transparent and free of any irregularities.

Meanwhile, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar said that together we all are to rid the country of this menace and the government will try to invite the entire political leadership in a day or two, in order to decide on how to prevent horse-trading.

He said that measures will be taken so that no one could point finger on future elections in the country and latest technology will be employed to ensure that no loophole remains in the electoral process.

Dar, however, said that constitutional step is to be taken for ending possible irregularities in the Senate polls.

Opposition Leader, Khursheed Shah clarified his statement that he did not oppose a constitutional amendment for this sake, adding, “I only regretted that we needed an amendment to prevent horse-trading, instead of avoiding it through political measures”.

He suggested the government to call an all parties conference (APC), so that a mutual strategy could be adopted in this regard.

On the occasion, Khawaja Saad Rafique said whatever was found suitable whether a constitutional amendment or political measures, a way out will be found out soon.
